After she gets my old webcam she can close the lid, sit back, and relax. When that arrives, the old Logitech goes to my wife for her frequent Zoom meetings (which she currently performs with her MacBook Pro 13" open and propped up in front of her Benq Monitor, with the iSight camera catching her unflatteringly from below). So I decided to bite the bullet, push the display webcam down to its inactive state and leave it there, and to order a modern Logitech USB HD webcam with stereo microphones from a reputable dealer with a promised delivery date of 3-4 weeks (not too bad in these Covid-19 times - all "Made in China"). It is possible that Macs running Catalina or Big Sur, but no USB-C ports may get Facetime to work with this display, but I have no way of checking. I have concluded that to use all facilities of the new HP E27d G4, a laptop or desktop with native USB-C in/out/power ports is absolutely required.
WEBCAM FOR MAC G4 INSTALL
I didn't bother to install Zoom and try that also. Old Logitech webcam works fine, HP Display Camera provides audio but no video.

WEBCAM FOR MAC G4 MAC OS
So I then tried Windows 10 Skype Desktop (which worked perfectly under Mac OS High Sierra with both new and old webcams).
WEBCAM FOR MAC G4 DRIVERS
Since I have an evaluation copy of Windows 10 64-bit, updated over a couple days by me to the current build 1909, and running under VirtualBox, and for which HP specifically offers video and audio drivers for the HP E27d G4 Docking Display (Windows 10, nothing earlier) I decided to run some tests.ĭrivers installed fine, audio works under all circumstances, Windows Camera recognises and works with BOTH HP Display Camera and my old Logitech USB webcam. Presumably Zoom and Skype have somewhere in their plist that HP E27d G4 has a camera which provides video via USB - I have not yet looked. HP, of course, does not provide any Mac driver software for the device.??Īny suggestions as to why Zoom and Skype desktop recognise and deal with the webcam correctly, but Facetime and Cisco Webex desktop cant? System Preferences Sounds lets me choose Hp Display as sound input as default and works fine. Ditto Cisco Webex - microphones fine, but no video feed via USB. Facetime does not let me even choose "HP Display Camera" until I plug in my old Logitech USB camera as well - then I can choose "HP Display Camera" and the display webcam lights up but does not deliver a video signal. and Skype desktop work fine and recognise both camera and microphones. I solved by this by using a USB 3.0 to USB-C adapter cable. However, the upstream USB connection for webcam and microphones is USB-C and the port is capable of powering a laptop with up to 100 W. Display works fine and is of high quality. With upstream USB 3.0 connection and Displayport 1.2 for sound and video, the built in webcam and microphone were all recognised by Facetime,, Skype, and Cisco Webex.Įncouraged by this, I bought for myself an HP E27d G4 which my 2016 MacMini will drive at QHD resolution (2560x1440). I previously bought my daugter (MacBook Air 2017) an HP E24m display with webcam.
